ProECo will develop highly tailored nanostructured materials using Continuous Hydrothermal Synthesis (CHS), a low temperature, environmentally friendly process that allows the preparation of particle architectures which are not realizable by other synthesis techniques.
Materials will be synthesized targeting two particular applications; a) Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and b) Li-ion batteries, where specific properties of the synthesized structures have great potential to improve the performance of these technologies.
At the scientific level the objective is to improve the understanding of; a) the growth mechanism of the nanoparticles and how it can be controlled, and b) how material properties, especially catalytic behavior and charge transport properties are altered when materials are present in the form of nanometer-scale particles.
